About Us

The Kawana Island Residents Association, informally known as KIRA, was established in 2007 to connect all residents of Kawana Island through one central voice.

The association is a group of volunteers who live on the Island, working to hear your issues, build close relationships with council and provide a sense of community through the organisation of group events.

Homeowners and tenants alike are welcome to connect with and partake in KIRA events and we welcome you to contact us at hello@kira.net.au or via our facebook page at any time with issues, requests, or ideas.

You will notice that we are a resident’s association and not a ratepayer’s association. All those who live on the Island, over the age of 18 can be members of KIRA and have a voice and an opinion on local matters.

We produce a bi-monthly publication, the KIRA mirror, to provide you with news and information on everything Kawana Island. This will be delivered direct to your mailbox by our group of volunteers for reading at your leisure.

For those residents new to living in this idyllic location, Kawana Island was established as a greenfield development in 1960s by Lensworth developers. It was then taken over by Stockland Development Ltd who were instrumental in the formation of KIRA, understanding that new developments need time and organisation to build a sense of community.

What We Do

KIRA’s primary purpose is to help the residents of this community have a voice.

We work closely with the local Sunshine Coast Council, local Police and other community-based services to ensure Kawana Island is maintained to a high standard, as well as providing a community outreach in the form of our regular meetings, our active Facebook community, and also the hosting of events to bring locals together.

We also work to support local business and the community as a whole.

We urge and encourage all residents of Kawana Island to become members of the Kawana Island Residents Association, to help give you a voice as well.
