Kawana Island Dog Off-Leash Area

The Sunshine Coast Council is pleased to announce the fenced dog off-leash area, to be located on Grand Parade Park, Parrearra (Kawana Island), due to popular requests from local residents.

The proposed off-leash area will provide a fenced area opposite Island Quays Kawana Island complex, with two entry points (a dual gate system).

Additional proposed infrastructure includes seating, rubbish bins with dog bag dispensers, water taps with dog bowls, as well as the planting of garden bed areas and shaded trees.

The area should greatly decrease an ongoing number of complaints against the number of dogs currently roaming the island  off-leash with their owners, causing some havoc with other pedestrians and cyclists that share the walking paths around Kawana Island.

Walking pets off-leash on Kawana Island, and the majority of the Sunshine Coast is prohibited by law and currently carried a hefty fine.

The off-leash area will be a great way to provide pet owner supervised off-leash facilities for dogs (and people) to socialise, with minimal impact on noise and neighbours.

The project is due to commence early 2020 (weather pending)
